Is Liberia Worth To Visit? Why Visit Liberia?
Settled on the banks of western Africa is a small country known as Liberia. Although this country has had a rough battle over the years, especially with wars amongst the residents, there is still a beauty about the country that can only be appreciated if seen in person.
When a person visits Liberia, the first thing that they may notice is that the country has a strong African heritage. When the slaves of the United States was released and set free during the Civil War, a lot of freed slaves returned home to Africa and settled in Liberia. When they arrived to the country, they vowed to honor those in the United States that freed them and to keep part of the heritage that they learned while being a slave – producing handmade items such as quilts and figurines.
As a person looks around the communities inside Liberia, they will notice that the residents still produce a variety of handmade quilts and African figurines. These crafts are sold in markets and are sometimes the only income the person may have. Other trades handled in Liberia is the production of sugar from sugar cane and also the trade of iron on the coast.
It is advised that if you decide to visit Liberia, that you visit during the summer months since that is when most of the rain comes in. Although a person may not think a vacation during a rain season is ideal, it may be better when compared to the dry, hot, desert-like conditions that take up the remainder of the year.
A trip to Liberia may not be something that the average person would consider as a great vacation destination, however, for someone that loves a rich culture and adventure would find this country very exciting. The experience with a different culture will usually shed light on how the rest of the world survives and may leave a person with the feeling of empathy regarding how people suffer around the world. Consider Liberia as a hidden treasure that just awaits a person to find it.
